The Great Save

The time after Christmas is a tough time for retailers. Target experimented with the Global Bazaar event for a few years but found people just waited until the items went on sale to buy. As sales declined they had to do something different. The new strategy was to create excitement around a commodity stock up event called the Great Save. They pulled out all the stops. There was a large presence at the front-of-store power aisle, the back flat area was transformed, there was a number of animated OOH digital billboards, instore media Channel Red 30 second spot, newsprint and digital ads with fun facts about toilet paper and cereal.
